This image portrays a very strong message. The first boy on the left has an upset look to his face. This boy is also sitting in a bunch of toys. The second boy doesn’t seem to be in the wealthiest environment and he only has one toy. But his facial expression is in huge contrast from the first boys. This image is an example of how happiness comes from a mindset and not how much you have. If you were to not have a happy mindset you would never have enough while if you were to display gratefulness for what you have you could be so much happier. Happiness comes from the little things and you should enjoy them because some people don’t even have the little things. Looking at the world from a point of view with gratitude and Great fullness will change your life for the overall better and allow you to be happier with yourself.
20% Project Week #6
This week was a huge success. During week five I began to stress that I wouldn’t finish my blanket in time for my presentation. I began to stress and over think things witch led to me procrastinating whether or not I should work on the blanket or not. Luckily with some support from my mom I was able to keep on crocheting. I succeeded by completing two color changes seamlessly for the final time and finishing the blanket with a power chain. This week I ran out of yarn for the final time. Thankfully my brother was kind enough to take me back to Michels for the fourth time this month. I can officially say that I owe him some money. Other than over procrastinating and running out of yarn This Week was a huge success and I had to make no adjustments. I’m looking forward to picking up next week with presenting my project to the class.
Fun Title
Seventh grade has given me so many fun memories, but here are three. I’m not sure why this is such a fun memory from this year but I think about it all the time. In the very beginning of the year one of my friends Isis somehow managed to wear two different color shoes one green and one white. Once she got to school she ended up realizing what happened so she called me and asked me to wear to different color shoes. I didn’t know what colors to grab so I just put on one black converse and one white. Once I got to school we put the master plan to constantly switch shoes together. This made the day super fun because we had quite a few people wondering why our shoes kept changing colors. The day was full of giggles and definitely is a core memory from this year. My second fun memory that lives rent free in my head is when our school had a dance battle. I thought this event was super fun and wholesome because our vice principal allowed it and had all the spectators sit down and watch it. Both the kids and some super cool moves and it definitely was a show to watch. Finally my favorite memory from this year was when me and my friend’s had a potluck at lunch. Some girls brought fruit and veggies while others brought sweet treats and we just sat at a table and had a great lunch.
20% Project #5: Crocheting a Blanket
Week number five was full of struggles. To start on a positive note I made twelve rows of progress for the mid section of my blanket. But on the other hand I have hit another block in the road. Three main struggles that occurred were running out of yarn, tucking tails, and building fiber chains. Running out of yarn has a easy solution of getting more as soon as possible. But tucking tails and fiber chains has thrown me off my eight week plan. To try to stay on track I am going to do some extra research at home on how to tuck tails efficiently. Tucking tails is a step where all the color transfer knot tails get woven in. I am struggling to complete this step because the tutorial for the blanket pattern I’m doing doesn’t teach the process of tail tucking. Fiber chains isn’t too difficult but requires a different size hook. This is because the new pattern begins with five yarn overs witch take up a lot of hook space. Because of the obstacles that I am currently facing I will be adjusting my eight week plan so that I will be working more towards finish next week. Next week I will pick up with the finishing chain of my blanket.
20% Project #4: Crocheting a Blanket
While working on my 20% project this week, I had so many successes. This week was super exciting because I was able to complete my first color swap. The colors I chose for my blanket are dark blue and cream. Using my hook and knowledge from Crochet 101 I was able to do a seamless color transfer. This step was a lot simpler than I had presumed it to be. Its as simple as yarning over and pulling the new yarn in a loop trough with the hook. It seemed complicated at first but I picked up on the movement super quick. Finish the step twice to transfer back into the cream was a huge confidence boost and motivated me to keep going. A small set back I had this week was running out of yarn. When first starting my project I wasn’t sure how much yarn I would end up needing so I only got one blue and one cream. I definitely underestimated how much yarn I would soon need by a lot. Luckily I was able to get my Mentor(aka my Mom) to take me to get more yarn the same day. This obstacle was not big enough to set me off from my eight week plan so I will not be making adjustments all though I do need to hurry up. Next week I will pick up crocheting my mid section and second blue pinstripe on my blanket.
20% Project #3 Crocheting a Blanket
Hello my name is Kate and for my 20% project I am learning how to crochet a blanket. This week my goal was learn the movement of the mid section of the blanket. Some successes that I experienced this week were getting down the movement of my 8ml hook. In the begging I struggled to remember the steps although they are repetitive. I practiced without yarn and just kept repeating the steps in my head till I finally understood and could move at a moderate pace. Another success I had this week was finishing my third chain. This was fairly easy but still was a challenge because the pattern totally changed! The change in pattern was due to finishing the border chain. The begging of the blanket the chain had to be thicker than the rest so that all of it stays together. Besides having a lot of success I did have my share of failures. This week I made my first focus mistake. This means that I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally yarned in twice causing a BIG KNOT. Thank goodness for Youtube, because watching a few videos helped me untie the knot without losing chain progress. Since this week I had minimal struggles I am proceeding on with my eight week plan. Next week I will pick up yarning the mid section of my blanket and hopefully will get to try my first color swap.
My Favorite Room
There are quite a few rooms in my house but my favorite room has to be my garage. My garage is where all the workout equipment stays and gets used. The workout equipment is super fun to use on the daily. I spend quite a lot of time in the garage typically up to two hours a day. Something about working out gives me a serotonin boost and make me feel alive. It’s really strange how the garage can change my mood not only when working out but just at sight. When I first walk in all my worries disappear and all I can think about is the workout ahead. Besides the amazing vibe my garage has another reason it is my favorite room is because of the gigantic speaker. Blasting my favorite music and jamming out while lifting weights are only two reasons why I love the garage.
20% Project #1 – Crocheting a blanket
Hello my name is Kate McMannis and for my 20% project I am learning how to crochet a blanket. This week my goal was learn how to tie a start knot and learn how to se the hook. I accomplished learning how to use a 8ml hook for a loop knot. To tie the knot you wrap to yarn around your pointer finger three time then pull the tail up and through. I struggled with learning how to create the small flower pattern because of how much movement there is. I wasn’t sure how to hook the second row to the first and move quickly without pausing. I am currently a little bit behind where I would like to be so I am adjusting my goal for next week so that I can focus more on training my muscle memory so that using the hook will be easier. Next week I will pick up by making a smaller side project before doing the middle section of my blanket.
Reservation For three
There are so many people I would want to enjoy dinner with, but these would have to be my top three, Harry Styles, My mom, and Citra cayeron. I would invite Citra cayeron from the book series I am Reading called SCYTH. I would invite her because through the whole book she kept me entertained and laughing. Another reason I would invite her is because she is a super easygoing and hilarious character that is a huge foodie. I would want to talk about how her life in the future is and what the future has in store. Next I would like to invite my mom. For starters I love my mom and wouldn’t want to leave her out on meeting two amazing people, but another reason I would like to invite her is so that the tension level doesn’t get weird. For example sitting in front of two famous people might get silent and awkward, but with my mom there she can help get the conversation going. Finally I would invite Harry styles. Harry Styles is one of my favorite artists and I really would want to meet him in person. Something I would look forward to is Harry’s super funky outfit he would where to dinner. Although this dinner would be amazing it would be pretty hard to meet a character from a book and a famous artist. I think I’ll just stick to dinner with my mom.
After College Thoughts
Thinking about after collage is scary, but knowing my dream career makes me less nervous. When I’m older I want to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically a orthopedic surgeon. Very since I was little I’ve wanted to be a doctor. This is because helping people and making sure people stay healthy is something that makes me happy. Another reason I would love to have this job is the study of the human body. Human body structure and process interests me greatly. For example mid class I will be thinking about how my brain is sending all the signals and how my bones trigger nerves to move. Being a doctor would allow me to answer all these unsolved questions. My Final reason my Dream job is to become a doctor is to be someone that kids and adults would look up to. I want to make trips to the hospital enjoyable and spark curiosity to learn about the medical field.
