Principal Powers

Mrs. Tanikawa is out sick and the school has asked me to step in as principal for the day. Being principal is a big responsibility and a lot of discipline to be able to handle middle schoolers calmly. My first change I would make is starting school at 9 like a typical late start day yet I would end school at three thirty. This would be the first change I would make because students preform better and have more energy that could be set forward to learning. The second change I would make is allowing students to attend whatever classes they want, with the exception that they have to attend seven classes and they have to stay in one class every period. My day as school principal would be fun filled especially at lunch. The third change I would make is getting to have the Friday fun games out in the quad not even on a Friday. The lunch change isn’t over too. My fourth upgrade I would put together is a student vote form for what they would want for lunch with options like Chipotle, pickup sticks, wahoos, and other delicious yet beneficial foods for lunch. The fourth change influence my final upgrade, a fist come first serve fun lunch day! These changes would only be for a day so If I was principal I would make sure to get all the paperwork and duties done but I would also have fun with all the students. MI hope your not absent if this fantasy comes true!

Rad Reading- November

This Month I read Out of My Mind by Sharon M Draper

Out of my mind. A classic title for an extraordinary book. Out of My Mind is a book that opens up a whole new perspective on life. In the beginning of the book the Author introduces the main character Melody Brooks. Melody is the narrator and protagonist. She is a ten year old girl that was born with Cerebral palsy. This disability affects not only her ability to move her own body but takes away her chance to communicate and speak to people in her life. Melody on a day to day basis attends Spaulding street elementary and has one special needs class she attends. Until one day when melody gets transferred into a combination music class. Melody is so happy she can finally start living like a normal girl. Accept theres one big problem, two girls are influencing the whole class not to like her. This impacts everyone but one kindhearted girl, Rose. Melody is thrilled to have a new best friend. Rose is a huge marker in Melody life because of how melody gains confidence and a protective shield from her bullies. A week or two goes by and Melody gets fed up. She cant talk, she cant even tell her best friend what she’s doing that weekend. Back in her normal class her favorite aid helps her look at a machine that would work with buttons to enable her voice. With convincing her parents start the journey to purchase it. There is grueling hours spent going through insurance any payments but her machine will soon arrive in a month. The attention from her parents fade as the machine is forgotten about. The attention is centered back on Penny, her 2 year old baby sister. She’s perfect, able to walk, talk, and do things that are plain cute. Melody’s medi talker arrives and her babysitter helps her program it. The device is game changing but seems to draw more negative attention to her. The story ends with a spelling b and a car accident that could forever change the lifestyle of the brooks. Or not.

This book is amazing because as students we can get used to hearing about ordinary people that face ordinary troubles in their life. But in this story you read from a different perspective. This book made me feel grateful to a whole different level but also from a point of view can make you feel more understood. This book has so many emotions and might even make you cry a little.

My favorite quote in the book Out of My Mind by Sharon M Draper is right in the begging of the book because of its deep sentimental meaning. This quote on page 19 is truly special, ” ever since I was little-maybe just a few months old- words were like sweet, liquid gifts, and I drank them like lemonade.” This quote is significant to me because It shows how important hearing voices and especially your loved one speak because their gift to be able to talk is you gift to hear it. To me this is important because sometimes I take words for granted and don’t listen enough to them and their meaning.

Their are many characters in this novel with all different personalities and character traits. Each person is easy to connect with and goes through relatable experiences. But of course if I had to choose my favorite character I would have to go with ten year old melody brooks. Melody is a character with admirable persistence. For example on page 165 the text states, ” I deleted those memories Ms.V I need room for more facts.” This may seem pretty basic but when Your a girl with Cerebral palsy dedicating your own ability to talk to reciting facts for your dream to be on the spelling b team its a pretty big thing. This shows great persistence because Melody continues to train after she got told by her teacher she couldn’t do it and that its not a good use of studying.

We Are On Our Own

Two cubs one mom and the great forests of Yellowstone. As the two cubs were woken by a startling growl, their paws hit the cold rock of the cave. With one of the cubs wondering the other cub stayed flat in his spot. Both of the bears looked confused in their own way. Where was their mother. Grunts and growls echoed through the hallow cave as they raced along through the grey slabs. Outside the sun was beaming and the air shared spring or maybe even summer. The two bears wanted to find mom but knew they might be on their own for a while. As they jumped and slapped and chased along the bank of a stream. With berries on there paws and the sent of wet fur lifting in the air the played at the foot of a river with fish flying everywhere. Having so much fun they did not realize they dark shadow standing neer them. It was mom!
